14 July 2025 – Perfect weekend for R-ace GP at the legendary Mugello circuit. For the fourth round of the Italian Formula 4 Championship, the French team came away with a double pole position, a double victory and a third place on the podium thanks to a sparkling Alex Powell. After a difficult start to the season, the Mercedes junior driver scored his first victories in the series, confirming a fine comeback in the championship.

Promising free practices

The tone was set in free practice. Emanuele Olivieri (#68) was consistent, setting the second fastest time twice. Alex Powell (#41) improved from 7ᵉ to 4ᵉ place between the two sessions. Oleksandr Savinkov (#52) and Guy Albag (#44) also claw back a few positions, while Emily Cotty (#42) remained further back in the rankings.

Qualifying: Alex Powell takes double pole 

Emanuele Olivieri and Alex Powell qualified 3rd and 4th respectively for race 1. Guys Albag was 21st, Emily Cotty 25th and Oleksandr Savinkov 31st. 

In the second session, Alex Powell impressed by taking pole position for race 2 with a time of 1’48.347, and also set the second fastest time of the session, securing a second pole for race 3. 

For race 2, Emanuele Olivieri was 15th, while Savinkov, Albag and Cotty qualified 22nd, 24th and 36th.

Race 1: First podium of the weekend

At the start of the first race, Alex Powell took advantage over Emanuele Olivieri. Guy Albag, Emily Cotty and Oleksandr Savinkov gained a few places. A few minutes later, Albag suffered a puncture and retired from the race. While Oleksandr Savinkov set the fastest lap of the race (1:50.371), he was run off the track by a competitor. 

Powell secured a solid 3rd place at the finish. Emanuele Olivieri finished 4th and Emily Cotty 22nd. The British rider won the women’s category. Savinkov finished 34th. 

Race 2: AleX Powell’s First win in F4 Italy!

Starting from pole, Alex Powell kept the lead from start to finish to take his first victory in Italian F4. Behind him, Olivieri and Savinkov battled in the pack, finishing 11th and 12th respectively. Guy Albag finished 22nd. At the very end of the race, Emily Cotty was involved in a collision and hit the wall on the pit straight. She escaped unhurt but had to retire.

Race 3: Double win for Alex Powell 

On Sunday, a light rain arrived for the final race. Emily Cotty was unable to start due to damage sustained the previous day.

When the lights went out, Alex Powell retained his pole advantage and dominated the race despite the tricky conditions. Hit by a rival, Emanuele Olivieri had to enter the pits for repairs. He came out at the back of the pack.

Alex Powell took his second consecutive victory. Guy Albag finished 17th, Oleksandr Savinkov 20th and Emanuele Olivieri 30th.

Extra points for the championship 

With this double victory, Alex Powell moves up to 4th place in the drivers’ championship, just ahead of team-mate Emanuele Olivieri (5th). A fine progression for the Jamaican driver, who has had a difficult start to the season. R-ace GP continues to make progress in the team rankings and is now closing in on second place.

The next round will take place at Imola, on the first weekend of August, where the French team will be looking to continue its positive momentum.
